Mary Baker is a partner with Kalbian Hagerty LLP. Mary engages primarily in complex civil litigation, including commercial and business litigation, employment litigation, intellectual property and trademark litigation and commercial bankruptcy. Mary has also handled a variety of large litigation matters in landlord-tenant disputes as well as some personal injury work.


Mary also represents clients in various federal courts, as well as state courts in Virginia and the District of Columbia. Her case highlights include the following:


  • Winning a $5.4M verdict as lead counsel for a successful Northern Virginia internet technology company in an employment and trade secrets theft case in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia;

  • Securing a multi-million dollar settlement in a real property dispute in Loudon County, Virginia (Loudon County Circuit Court);

  • Winning a directed verdict on behalf of defendant foreign embassy in dispute over real property in the District of Columbia involving issues of sovereign immunity;

  • Arguing a case of first impression before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals

  • Successfully defending defendant-employee in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in trade secret-breach of fiduciary duty case;

  • Serving as chief author of all legal briefs in successful appeal to Fourth Circuit in commercial case regarding bankruptcy, partnership and contract interpretation issues;

  • Securing summary judgment on behalf of defendant employer (school district) in employment discrimination case.
