Rick Monk is an associate with the Firm's Corporate Section. He represents tax-exempt organizations, individuals and corporate entities in a wide variety of business, real estate and policy issues.

Rick serves as General Counsel to American Farmland Trust, a national agricultural conservation organization. He is responsible for all of the organization's legal affairs, including land conservation transactions, tax and estate planning matters, legislative analysis, employment law matters, litigation, and nonprofit governance.

Rick's tax-exempt organizations and corporate practice includes advising clients on matters ranging from start-up issues, corporate governance, general contract law and securities law. His clients include entities with interests in real estate, conservation easements, railroad, renewable energy, and ecosystem services. His active environmental practice includes representing and counseling conservation organizations, companies and landowners in a wide variety of conservation-oriented projects and policy development.

Prior to joining Kalbian Hagerty LLP, Rick gained experience through a variety of legal positions. He was managing attorney at a nonprofit organization providing community legal services, an attorney at a firm providing "in-house" general counsel services to small businesses, and an associate specializing in corporate and securities law with a nationally prominent law firm.
